Take The 2014 JobMob Census (Youll Be Glad You Did)

Take The 2014 JobMob Census (You'll Be Glad You Did) 32 If you're a regular JobMob reader or subscriber, this is for you. Why do a census? To make JobMob better for you and for me. If I know who you are and what you want, it'll be a lot easier for me to help you.eval If I know that's helping you, I'm more likely to help others like you. The results of last year's census directly influenced some of the articles I've posted here since, and showed me how important the upcoming JobMob evolution will be moving forward.eval It only takes a few minutes. I specifically set things up to be as easy and as quick as possible. There are fewer questions than last year's first ever JobMob census, and fewer open-ended questions than last year. The required questions are almost all multiple choice and should take 1-2 minutes to go through. There are also a few optional questions â€" which I hope you'll answer too â€" that are more open-ended. Say how you really feel None of the census questions asks for any identifying information, so fire away. Honesty is the best policy. Thanks in advance. Reply to the census here below: Loading#8230;

7 Questions to Ask Before You Start to Write - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

7 Questions to Ask Before You Start to Write - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Ask yourself the following questions before you start to write your next article, blog post, or book to build your personal brand. The questions may appear to be simple, but always pausing to answer them can help you save time by focusing your attention on the key issues that determine the success of your writing projects. 1. Who are your intended readers? Start each writing project by reviewing what you know about your intended readers. Dont try to write for everyone, but narrow your focus to the specific types of readers you want to cultivate as potential prospects and clients. Consider creating 3 or 4 personasone-page composite descriptionsof the key prospects you want to attract to your business. Your personas should identify who youre writing for, their characteristics and concerns, and why you want them as clients. Frequently update your personas, and review them at the start of each writing project. 2. What is the relevance of this topic to your intended reader? Your writing and personal branding success is based solely on the relevance of what you write to your intended readers. Unless youre measuring your success by the number of Nobel Prizes you win, or the number of scholarly publications that footnote your papers in their yearly reviews, your success will be judged solely by the utility of your message to your target market. So, dont just share information! Instead, share useful information that will save your target market time while helping them solve their problems and achieve their goals. When starting to write, review your ideal readers problems and goals. Then, reframe your message to show how your information will help your readers solve their problems and achieve their goals. 3. How will readers benefit from what youre going to write? The more specific you are in identifying the value of the information you share, and the more you highlight the benefits they will enjoy. Look for ways to dramatize the value of the information youre going to share using headlines and titles that stress the specific benefits. Look for titles like: Guerrilla Marketing in 30 Days. Note the emphasis for fast results. 21 Pounds in 21 Days: The Marthas Vineyard Diet Detox.  This title emphasizes both fast results and the amount of weight lost. 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die. The appeal of this popular series emphasizes the quantity of books (recordings, or places to visit) summarized inside. In general, of course, the smaller the number, the more manageable the topic appears, hence, the success of books like Stephen R. Coveys The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Individuals and blog posts like  7 Ways to Start Building Your Personal Brand for Free. 4. Has the topic already been covered? Always check the competition before starting to write. Find out what has been already been written on the topic. Do a careful online search and analyze whats been   done. As you review the competition, note the dates when competing topics appeared. Proceed with care if nothings already been written on the topic. This is often an indication that theres either no market, or a small market, for what you want to write. Book publishers, for example, have always been notoriously leery about publishing the first book on a new topic. As you research competing topics, familiarize yourself with the contents, as it will help you answer the next question. 5. Have you identified a fresh approach to the topic? The presence of existing competition for your article, blog post, or book doesnt mean you shouldnt proceed, as long as your approach to the topic is obviously different from whats already been written. The presence of 73, 672 diet book titles on Amazon.com doesnt mean theres no room for additional titlesit just means that your diet book has to be clearly differentiated from existing books. Thus, there are diet books for diabetics, diet books for women over 45, diet books for vegetarians, and diet books for teens, for gluten-free living, and for business executives on the go. The success of the for Dummies series shows that theres always room for introductory treatments of even the most   esoteric topics, i.e., Drupal for Dummies and ASVAB for Dummies. Likewise, theres always room for writing that interprets the latest advances, challenges, threats, and trends, in every field, especially writing that addresses specific market segments. 6. What do you want readers to do next? Before you start to write, know how youre going to end your article, blog post, or book. Never leave your reader hanging, without knowing what to do next. End on a positive note. Options include: A short list of tips for implementing the ideas discussed in your article or blog post. Suggested resources for readers to explore on their own, such as book titles, blog posts and websites to visit, or YouTube videos. Special offers, like checklists, reports, worksheets, or other tools to help readers solve their problems or achieve their goals. The success of your writing doesnt occur until your ideal readers solve their problem or achieve their goal by implementing your ideas. 7. How do you intend to benefit from writing this project? Although everything you write helps shape your personal brand, without a way of benefiting from the information you share, you can go out of business waiting for ideal readers to contact you and ask you for personal help solving their problems and achieving their goals. Thats why everything you write should direct readers to your marketing funnel, the structure you have created to obtain your readers email addresses and permission for you to stay in contact with them. This is the reason that your writing and personal branding strategy has to include one, or more, incentives that you can offer at the end of your articles, blog posts, and books, that will give readers a reason to contact you and begin their journey from stranger to prospect to client. The better your incentive, and the easier you make it for readers to contact you, the greater your writing and personal branding success! Author: Roger C. How to Spell the Word Resume - Algrim.co

How to Spell the Word Resume - Algrim.co Knowing the correct spelling for the word ‘resume’ can make a lasting impression on your employer. If you spell it résumé, does it look snobby? How does the employer read that? Are there certain resume’s where this is an appropriate way to format the word? Let’s jump right into understanding the spelling for this word. What you’re going to learn in this guide: Understand the various ways that this word is spelled. Understand the AP style, Webster’s Dictionary style, and formal way to spell the word. Understand what is the most popular method to use the traditional “resume” spelling. Understand where and when to use various ways of spelling this resume, the word. Ready? Let’s jump right in! Ways of Spelling the Word “Resume” There are three potential ways to spell the word: Resume: This is the most common, popular way to format the word. It is considered common English. But it is not necessarily the correct way to spell the word if you’re looking at AP Style or how the word is spelled in the Webster’s Dictionary. Resumé: The accent mark is on the last “e” as part of the word. This is a closer, more European way of spelling the word. And while it is more closely related to how the word is pronounced, it is also not entirely correct. This is not how the word is spelled in the United States or in Canada. Résumé: This is the formal way to spell the word, as defined by AP Style as well as the Webster’s Dictionary. Though, this is not how you may decide to use the word for your own practical uses. When to Use “Résumé” There is only one situation where I recommend using this format. And that is if you’re applying to a job as a professional writer, editor, or someone who is part of editorial staff. The reason is that this shows that you have an understanding of the correct English way to use the word. And it may seem slightly snobby when using this format in any other type of resume or cover letter. But if you’re applying for editorial staff positions, this could help to show that you have incredible writing skills and are displaying that. Aside from that, I would recommend not using this format for your CV, cover letter, or resume. The reason? It can seem like you’re attempting to be a writing snob. The best cover letters and resumes are ones that speak from your heart and show your skills through previous work experience and performance. Not those that are attempting to show off certain merits or skills too heavily. Lastly, if the job description lists exceptional writing skills as part of their desired qualities, then you may want to consider using the format “résumé” â€" that may be the only time and place where it is acceptable to use this format. Make your best judgment call by reading between the lines of the online job posting. Try to position yourself as unique but relatable. Is It Acceptable to Use “Resume”, “Résumé” and “Resumé” All forms of the word resume, formatted like this, are acceptable. Though, consider how your reader will respond to the way they are reading the word. Have they seen the word spelled like that most commonly? Will they be questioning whether or not you are spelling the word correctly? Or will they feel like they often misspell the word? All in all, that can distract the reader away from what’s important, and that’s reading your email, reading your cover letter or reading your resume. If you had to rate which format to use most commonly it would be: 1. Resume 2. Resumé 3. Résumé With the most common way simply being “resume”, much like you read in the headline of this very guide.

The Best Way To Immobilize Fear And Self-Doubt

The Best Way To Immobilize Fear And Self-Doubt The following is a guest post by Cheryl Wood.  Her bio follows. Fear and self-doubt are unquestionably two of the most common roadblocks to success in life. Although a large percentage of the population allows fear and self-doubt to hold them hostage to a reality they don’t love, there are some who courageously set a model of facing fears, taking risks, and playing all out in life. The good news is: If they can do it, so can you! Fear is Just Internal Energy Fear is nothing more than an internal energy, and every individual has the personal power to choose how that energy is expended. Some individuals allow fear to challenge them to do more, to stretch their thinking, and to chauffer them into new doors of opportunity whereas others don’t. Many of the individuals who become paralyzed by fear have a strong aversion to failing causing them to resist moving forward to achieve their goals. It is a natural human tendency to shy away from fear since it’s a defense mechanism against things that can harm you. But it is critical that you distinguish the difference between fear that prevents you from harm versus fear that stands in the way of your goals. Think about a time when you experienced fear as you were embarking upon a new venture. Maybe you considered starting your own business, enrolling in school, or applying for a job promotion. Undoubtedly, fear initially made you feel apprehensive and question if you should move forward. Perhaps you thought to yourself, “Can I really do this?” “Is this going to be worth the sacrifice?” “What if I exert a lot of time and energy into this venture and it fails?” “What will others think if I don’t succeed?” If not immobilized, fear and self-doubt can prevent you from the exciting and enlightening possibilities that life has to offer you. It is important to acknowledge that fear always lingers. It will consistently attempt to try to talk you out of stretching into spaces that are unknown but can lead you down the path to success. Quiet The Voice of Fear In order to immobilize fear and self-doubt, you must refuse to allow the voice of fear and self-doubt to be louder than the voice of possibility. This will require a mindset shift â€" what you think, what you believe, the words you use, and the thoughts that permeate your mind. Greatness is waiting for you to show up. It’s up to you to bulldoze over fear in order to get there. You must make an intentional decision to spend more time focused on your ability to achieve the goals you set, to overcome challenges, and persist in the face of unexpected barriers. Facing and Conquering Fear In addition to fueling your mind with positivity in order to immobilize fear and self-doubt, you must also: Remind yourself that you are enough: Do not give self-doubt permission to run your life. Focus more on what you have than what you’re lacking and play up to your strengths. Face your fears instead of running from them: The more you run from your fears the further you distance yourself from your destiny. Allow yourself to feel the fear but move in the direction of the goal anyway. Embrace failure as information learned: Fear of failing keeps most people stuck right where they are. Instead of viewing failure as a permanent statement, view it as a temporary status that teaches you a powerful lesson each time. Upgrade your internal dialogue: Every day, speak positive affirmations over your life. Do not allow negative “head trash” to permeate your words or thoughts. Connect to a community of like-minded people: There is power in numbers, so connect to a community of other mission-driven individuals who can help to empower you to stay committed to your goals. Remember that everything in life is a choice. Today, I challenge you to overcome fear and self-doubt and CHOOSE to open the doors of possibility and opportunity.
